Wrexham Cannot Be Stopped!
Wrexham maintained their unbeaten streak in League One with a solid 2-0 victory over Peterborough, propelling them into the top two positions.
In yet another standout performance, Wrexham secured a win against Peterborough, who are eyeing a playoff spot. Goals by Jack Marriott and Max Cleworth, both scored before halftime, allowed the Welsh team to match Stockport on points at the league's summit. Despite their eighth league goal, Wrexham effectively shut down the Posh's offensive efforts. Marriott initiated the scoring with a deflected shot that sailed over Jed Steer in the 28th minute. Just before the half-time whistle, Cleworth outmuscled others to head in Thomas O'Connor's setup.
Interestingly, prior to this match, Wrexham had only triumphed twice in their last 17 Football League away games at Peterborough (with 5 draws and 10 losses), last achieving a win there in February 2002 (3-2). This victory marks a significant turnaround in their away game fortunes in Cambridgeshire.
Jack Marriott emerged as the standout player, taking on the challenging role of filling the goal-scoring void left by Paul Mullin in Phil Parkinson's squad. Despite scoring only once in 17 appearances last season, Marriott has already netted twice in four games this season. His crucial goal in this match helped calm Wrexham’s nerves, allowing them to secure the win.
Wrexham now shifts focus to an upcoming home game against Shrewsbury, who have had a rocky start to the season but recently secured their first league victory against Leyton Orient, currently at the bottom of League One. The Racecourse Ground has proven difficult for visiting teams, and a win against nearby rivals Shrewsbury could further solidify Wrexham’s strong position.
