RUGBY - Macron is the new sportswear partner of USA Rugby
Macron is strengthening its links with the world of rugby, this time in the United States, thanks to a new partnership with USA Rugby, the body that governs and administers the sport in the USA. The Italian brand, which boasts a rapidly growing presence on the North American market, partly thanks to the opening of new offices in Bridgeport, Connecticut, will be supplying teamwear to the USA’s men’s and women’s XVs and Rugby Sevens. The “Women’s Eagles” are one of the world’s top sides, and the American women’s Rugby Sevens team won a historic bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
Thanks to this new agreement with USA Rugby, Macron now boasts partnerships with five of the top ten women’s teams in the World Rugby ranking (Canada, Scotland, USA, Italy, and Wales) and with an impressive nine out of the top twenty men’s national sides.
USA Rugby was formed in 1975, but the game of rugby was played in the USA as far back as 1870. In fact, rugby is the game from which modern American football is derived. The sport of rugby developed so rapidly in the USA that the national side, nicknamed the “Eagles”, won gold medals at the 1920 and 1924 Olympics. The 1970s saw a rugby revival in the United States and established the need for a national body to govern the sport. Today, USA Rugby manages the game at the national level, as well as the community level across Amateur Club, College and Youth competition. Major League Rugby, the Men’s XVs professional league in the United States also operates in partnership with USA Rugby and has been on a growth trajectory since first kicking off in 2017.
“We are delighted to announce our new agreement with USA Rugby,” declared Gianluca Pavanello, Macron’s CEO. “Macron has become synonymous with rugby, and the arrival of a new federation whose shirts will bear the Macron Hero confirms that our brand is well established as the point of reference for the sport as a whole. This project in the United States is particularly stimulating because the market is a vitally important one for us. USA Rugby will be receiving high-performance, high-tech sportswear with innovative, elegant designs capable of adding value to the history and identity of the federation and its national sides.”
USA Rugby CEO, Bill Goren added, “This is an exciting new partnership for USA Rugby. As our Men’s and Women’s National Teams head into a new era, we’re very proud to partner with an established rugby brand in Macron. First class kit and apparel are a large part of performing our best on the world stage, so we’re very much looking forward to having the excellence and quality of Macron on our side through this journey.”
